First trilogy: Vampire Blood
1. Cirque du Freak
In order to save his bestfriend, Steve, Darren must trade an antidote of spider's poison with his humanity. He faked his death and followed Mr. Crepsley, a vampire, to learn the ways of becoming a half-vampire.
2. Vampire's Assistant
Darren refused to drink human blood. He survived only with animal blood. He went back to Cirque du Freak, where all his normal life ends. There, he met Evra von, a snake boy and Sam Grest, a human. Unfortunately, a wolf-man was accidentally freed and Darren learnt to drink his first human blood in a way he won't forget.
3. Tunnel of blood
Mr. Crepsley, along with Darren and Evra von, returned to his hometown. He discovered an insane murder who was commit by vampire's enemy, a vampeneze, who always kill when they drink. Things went wrong when Murlough, the vampaneze, was willing to kill Debbie, the first girlfriend of Darren.
Second trilogy: Vampire Rites
4. Vampire Mountain
Mr. Crepsley, Darren, and two little people made their journey to Vampire Mountain to prove the worthiness of Darren. Since he was too young to be a vampire, Darren had to prove himself worthy by doing the trials of initiation, which originally made for candidates of Vampire General. He accepted it, not knowing that if he failed he will be killed.
5. Trials of death
Darren did his trials successfully although he suffered bruises, wounds, burnt skin, even broken bones. Then in the Blooded Boar, he was almost killed when a little person named Harkat Mulds saves him. It was considered as a failure and the Vampire Princes are about to punish him. Someone helped him escaped. Later, he discovered a traitor who prepared an army of vampaneze to attack Vampire Mountain.
6. Vampire Prince
Darren was about to die when he was saved by a pack of wolves. He made a journey back to Vampire Mountain to expose the traitor to Vampire Princes. He also came up with an idea to help the vampires battled the vampaneze. He was made a Vampire Prince to avoid his punishment.
Third trilogy: Vampire War
7. Hunters of dusk
A hunt for Vampaneze Lord begun. A vampaneze Lord was destined to be the one who destroyed vampire clans. Three hunters were chosen by Desmond Tiny (DesTiny): Darren Shan, Larten Crepsley, and another Vampire Prince named Vancha March. They crossed path with Vampaneze Lord for the first time.
8. Allies of the night
Darren met his former girlfriend Debbie Hemlock who is now an adult, while he is still a teenager. He also met Steve, who wanted to help Darren searched Vampaneze Lord, along with Debbie when she learnt the truth.
9. Killers of the dawn
Darren faced the Vampaneze Lord for the second time. He then learnt the truth about Vampaneze Lord.
Fourth trilogy: Vampire Destiny
10. Lake of Souls
Darren helped his friend Harkat to discover his former identity. A little person was actually a dead person who brought alive by Desmond Tiny and lived as a creepy gray-skinned creature. They were sent to find the Lake of Souls where Harkat has to fish his soul in order to discover his identity.
11. Lord of the shadows
Darren traveled with Cirque du Freak once more. The journey brought them back to Darren's old hometown. There he met Annie, his younger sister who is now becomes a woman with a son. He found out more about Lord of the shadows and its relation with him and the Vampaneze Lord.
12. Sons of destiny
Darren faced Lord of Vampaneze for the last time. He discovered about his destiny and the role he will play. The ending is not what you can imagine. Full of surprises as I would say.
If you really loved vampire novels and other similar stories, then you definitely need to read this saga. It only contain of 200 pages or so. Your point of view about vampires are about to change completely. I rated it five stars out of five!
